A Day in the Life – Process Edition

I began doing "a day in the life" blogs in January in response to a 30-day challenge from the Rave Reviews Book Club (@RRBC). I missed one day and my negligence eliminated me from the challenge. That's okay; however, I have been remiss in adding more blogs to this...

A Day in My Life – Gratitude Edition – January 24, 2023

A lesson in gratitude for today. On Sunday I bought a huge package of stew meat from BJs. It was way too big for the two of us to eat. I made a big crock pot of beef stew and still had a lot left over. I was trying to figure out how to freeze it when a woman with...

A Day in My Life – Major Snow Edition – January 23, 2023

We have about six inches of snow today and it's still steadily falling. I've been listening to the radio station where I work all morning. They run a show every weekday at this time called The Roundtable from 9 AM-noon ET (www.wamc/roundtable.org). The first...

A Day in My Life, March 8, 2024 – International Women’s Day

To celebrate International Women's History Day, we went to see the movie "Cabrini" today, about St. Frances Xavier Cabrini. It's very difficult to get my husband to leave the house, but, since he's a devout Catholic, he agreed to see the movie. It was very well done...

A Day in My Life, March 7, 2024: Alexander Graham Bell Day

Today is Alexander Graham Bell Day. Why March 7? It was on this day in 1876 that Bell received a patent for “transmitting vocal or other sounds telegraphically,” and on March 10, Bell made the now iconic statement, “Mr. Watson, come here. I need you," which...

A Day in My Life, March 6, 2024 – National Oreo Cookie Day

It's a good thing it's National Oreo Cookie Day. I need a cookie. Maybe a dozen. This morning, my son and his wife called me to say they need financial help because their septic tank is backing up into their house. Gross. Horrible. They need our help. They both work...

Award-winning Author

Wanda began following baseball in 1956 as an ardent fan of the Boston Red Sox. She made her first visit to Fenway Park in the early 1960s when she was fourteen years old. She parlayed her love of baseball and developed characters based on people she’d met in minor league and major league ball and sent them to play in the minors in western New York. Set in 1972, the novel examines the challenges they face—not always on the baseball diamond.

Empty Seats attracted attention from Minor League Baseball, as well as the (now defunct) nationally syndicated "Only a Game” radio show.

Following publication, Empty Seats won a number of citations, including the New Apple Award and the Independent Publishers’ Award.

Wanda’s love of baseball still lingers to this day. In 2012, she auditioned to become the public address announcer at Fenway Park. Although she didn’t get the position, she had the opportunity to announce a full game between the Red Sox and the Minnesota Twins in August 2012.

A Day in My Life – Elvis Edition – January 8, 2023

Today would have been Elvis Presley's eighty-eighth birthday. I mention this because today I attended a party given by a very old friend of mine. She, another woman (who wasn't able to attend the party), and I made a pilgrimage to Graceland about ten years ago. We...

A Day in My Life – Radio Edition (January 7, 2023)

I slept late today, as I often do, prior to going to WAMC to do my weekly radio show. I finish my on-air duties at 10 pm ET, but I have lots to do before I can head home. I don't normally leave until somewhere around midnight. (My show airs from 8-10 pm ET. You can...

A Day in My Life, January 5, 2023 – Football Edition

Today I heard that Buffalo Bills football player Damar Hamlin, the 24-year-old safety who suffered from cardiac arrest on the field in Cincinnati on Monday night, is making improvements at that city's major medical center. He's apparently awake and communicating with...

A Day in My Life – January 4, 2023 – Kindergarten Edition

/> On Wednesdays, I'm an aide with a kindergarten class in a Schenectady City School. In my other volunteer work, I read, one-on-one, with specific students. I've worked with the teacher I was with today for more than six years, although the pandemic quarantine year...

A Day in The Life – January 3, 2023

Exciting times in the Schenectady School District today! I am a volunteer reader at two of the city's elementary schools. On Tuesdays I work with a second grader and a third grader, both boys. This is the second year I've worked with the third grader. I went to the...

Wanda made her singing debut when she was only four years old at a family reunion in southwestern Virginia. From that day forward, she always wanted to make a recording, even if it only meant something for her family.

She made that dream come true when she gathered a number of her professional folk music friends and produced “Singing Along with the Radio.” These were people she’d always wanted to sing with, and they went into recording studios to complete the task.

When all was said and done, the CD was well received by both the public and folk DJs. It has enjoyed airplay in the United States, Canada, and Ireland.
