A Day in My Life – Catching Up Edition – January 9, 2023

After a crazy day yesterday, in which I:

–sang in the folk group at church
–played in a USTA tennis match
–attended a party at the home of one of my oldest friends
–wrote a blog post
–spent two hours editing

I figured today would be a day to chill (as much as I chill). I backed up my computer, which the little machine reminded me that I hadn’t done for 24 days (YIKES!), did a little laundry, a few tidying up chores, and waited for a call from someone from a geothermal company. We are considering installing geothermal heat/airconditioning at our house. There are lots of rebates and tax incentives to do this, and we are anxious to be as energy-efficient as possible. We already have solar power and on-demand hot water heating. My husband has a hybrid plug-in car. We’re trying to do out part.

After the guy called and gave us the full story on the geothermal, we think we’re going to do it. It’s not cheap, but it will save us lots of money in the long run.

In about half an hour, I have a board meeting with a local folk music organization on Zoom. We normally just go over budget issues and other minor details associated with fundraising and upcoming concerts. It shouldn’t be too complicated (knock on wood).

My husband and I usually watch Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! together. Tonight he’ll be watching alone. He always takes copious notes about the final Jeopardy! question for me when I can’t watch. He poses the question to me; I rarely get it right.

Wanda, glad you had (what YOU call) a restful day! Good luck with the geothermal installation. George and I looked into solar, but we didn’t do it. The house across the street has it, though. I see more and more of that everywhere, which is great. Enjoy hearing your Jeopardy question and hope you get it right!

I also have solar panels and a tankless water heater. The solar panels were expensive, but the guy assured me they would pay themselves off. It sounded great until our state’s government gave free reins to our monopolized energy company to raise the monthly connection rate for solar panel users. Still, I am helping the environment, which was one of my main reasons for doing it. When I was a kid, we used to watch Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy during dinner. Thanks for bringing back those memories, Wanda!

Very interesting, Wanda! Hubby and I have discussed getting solar panels installed, and getting a hybrid plug-in car. I’m afraid the most we’ve done is always buy energy efficient appliances and make sure we use the recyclers for waste disposal.

Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy are our games, too! Thanks for sharing your day!🤗

Hi, Wanda! I’ve always thought geothermal energy should be more widely utilized. Hope all goes well with the installation. We’re in an HOA controlled community (our first experience with it) and we’re not allowed to use solar panels or any form or energy other than gas and electric through the grid. Things may change in the far future. I often wish we’d gone with electromagnetic energy when Tesla discovered we could make practical use of it. The problem was that it would be free, and no one stood to make a fortune from it. Enjoy your time with your husband! Blessings!

    Hi, Wanda,
Wow, you did a lot. Your doing a backup reminds me that I need to see if my backup is running correctly.
I also plan to get an electric car sometime in 2026 and I plan to get solar panels also sometime between now and the end of 2024.
    Enjoy your Zoom meeting.
    Have a lovely day.

Jeopardy intimidates me, so I never watch it. I’m bad at remembering names and places. In contrast, Wheel of Fortune makes me feel smart. I watch movies on TV and avoid reality shows or game shows since I enjoy escaping into whatever fantasy or adventure I’m watching.

Hi Wanda! I’ve grown weary of Wheel of Fortune, but I still enjoy Jeopardy – not that I know any of the answers. Haha! I’m honestly not familiar with geothermal heat/air conditioning. Now that you’ve got me curious, I’ll have to check it out! : )

    Best wishes,
