And Still…

I did everything right.

I was one of the first people to sign up for the Pfizer vaccination and got both of them.

And still I got COVID19.

I have both Pfizer boosters.

And still I got COVID19.

I have worn a KN95 mask to all public places–grocery stores, drug stores, etc. I have confronted people who called me a “sheep” for doing so. I went to a conference several weeks ago and didn’t take it off unless I was eating.

And still I got COVID19.

I guess it was inevitable. Six months shy of my 74th birthday, I’m in that category of people who are more susceptible. I’m active–play tennis three or four times a week–and still work one day a week. I read in the Schenectady School District to a second grader (although that ended about ten days ago). I’m not one to sit around and let the grass grow.

I should have known two days ago when I could barely function. All I wanted to do was sleep. That’s just not the way I live my life.

I was supposed to go to Fenway Park for a baseball game on Sunday (Father’s Day) with my son and grandson. Scratch that! I have to figure out what to do about my radio show for tomorrow night. Minor inconveniences, I guess.

But when I got the text from the New York State Department of Health this morning, I knew.

I believe the case I have is milder than it would have been without the precautions I’ve taken. My best advice to anyone reading this is to still be wary and protect yourself and everyone else.

Stay safe. It sounds like such a cliche, but I mean it.
