Wanda Adams Fischer retired after a nearly 40-year career in public relations/marketing/media relations for not-for-profit and government entities in 2014. Originally from the Boston area, she and her family moved to New York's Capital District in 1979. She has hosted and produced "The Hudson River Sampler," a nationally-renowned folk music program, on WAMC-FM/Northeast Public Radio since 1982, and also produced her own CD in 2003 called "Singing Along with the Radio."

An avid Boston Red Sox fan, Fischer applied to become the public address announcer for the team in 2012. She was one of the final 12 candidates being considered for the position and announced a full game between the Red Sox and Minnesota Twins at Fenway Park in August 2012. Ultimately, she was not chosen for the position; however, her love of the game--from t-ball to major league--is year-round.

She has parlayed that love of baseball into her first novel, "Empty Seats," released October 2017 by Spring Training Media and distributed by Epigraph Publishing of Rhinebeck, NY. It's the tale of three young men in their quest to prove that they have the skills necessary to join the elite ranks of those who play Major League Baseball.

She has also published two short stories, "Handprints" and "The Genius and the KGB," and a microread, "The Audition," all available on Amazon as ePublications. More writing is in the works!

She lives with her husband, Bill, a retired physician, and dachshund, Oscar, in Schenectady, NY. They have two grown children and six grandchildren.
